The Department of Public Works is responsible for maintaining the Town streets and properties.   One such property is the recycling center, where property owners can dispose of their yard waste, including small branches up to 4 feet in length and 6" in diameter.  The recycling center offers free composte and wood chips.  The Department of Public Works will also deliver wood chips for a $55 per load fee, up to 7 yards of chips.  Payment is required prior to delivery, deliveries are made periodically througout the spring and summer.  To order the chips, please contact the Town Hall.

The Town of Oconomowoc is seeking a full-time skilled Mechanic to join our D.P.W. team. As a Mechanic, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining various vehicles and equipment. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about mechanics and enjoys working in a new facility and a clean environment.

Responsibilities

- Perform routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, tire rotations, and filter replacements

- Diagnose and repair mechanical issues on various vehicles and equipment

- Conduct inspections to identify potential problems and recommend necessary repairs

- Use diagnostic tools and equipment to troubleshoot electrical and mechanical systems

- Assist in the purchase of vehicles and equipment based on needs of the department

- Keep accurate records of all repairs and maintenance performed

- Stay up-to-date with industry advancements and attend training as required

 

Qualifications

- High school diploma or equivalent

- Proven experience as a Mechanic or similar role

- Strong knowledge of automotive systems, including engines, transmissions, brakes, and electrical systems

- Proficient in using diagnostic tools and equipment

- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail

- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment

- Good communication skills to effectively interact with residents, public officials and team members

- Must be able to obtain a class B CDL within 6 months of employment

- Ability to operate various types of equipment including snowplows, skid loaders, excavators and wheel loaders a plus but not required

Salary: $28.00 - $38.00 per hour based on qualifications

Expected hours: 40 – 55 per week

Schedule:  Monday to Friday, on call, overtime and weekends as needed.
